What To Put in a Smoothie

What to put in a smoothie

First of all, I love simple smoothies. My go-to smoothie has just some banana, berries and coconut oil but you can put pretty much anything in a smoothie. Here are some popular choices to give you some ideas:

What to put in a smoothie

Here’s a list of ingredients that you can put in your smoothie:

To make it sweet

At least in my opinion, smoothie has to be sweet. So let’s start with a sweet element.

Bananas
Mangos
Pineapple
Peaches
Cherries
Apples
Pears
Watermelon
Dates
Raisins
Stevia
Honey
Maple syrup

To make it healthy (not that these other categories wouldn’t be…)

When you have smoothies you probably want to make them as healthy as possible. So why not “hide” some really healthy elements to it?

Berries
Pumpkin
Spinach
Kale
Arugula
Cucumbers
Carrots
Fresh herbs such as mint
Wheat grass
Protein powder
Hemp protein powder
Spirulina
Aloe vera
Maca

To add some fat

That sounds a bit gross but fat in a smoothie is actually a really good thing because as we know today, fat is good for you. It will also help keep your hunger at bay. Try these:

Coconut oil
Nuts and almonds
Nut butter
Avocado
Flax oil

For liquid

Now, you probably don’t want to eat your smoothie with a spoon so add some liquid.

Water
Milk
Almond milk
Greek yogurt
Skyr
Coconut milk or water
Juices (be careful, they might contain a lot of sugar)
Cooled tea
Raw egg
Kefir

For texture

Another thing you can do is add some texture to your smoothie. Here’s some ideas:

Ice
Frozen fruit or berries
Oatmeal
Flax seeds
Chia seeds
Goji berries

For flavor

Finally, in addition to all these ingredients, you can also add some extra flavor.

Cacao powder or hot chocolate mix
Ginger
Turmeric
Lemon juice
Vanilla
Black pepper
Cayenne
Salt
Cinnamon

So what do you put in your smoothie?
