Whole30 and 30 Day Shred week 3

Another week on Whole30!

Overall week 3 has been interesting. I haven’t accomplished as much as I hoped: I haven’t eaten proper breakfasts (= more than just fruits) and I haven’t had any fish.

But then again I have started shredding again! Not as much as I would like to but I’ve done four 30 Day Shred workouts this week – that is certainly an improvement to my zero workouts last week

Here’s my week 3 report:

Week 3: January 15 – 21, 2016

Day 15

Friday, I’m so excited it’s Friday! I don’t have anything special planned for weekend though but I actually like it that way.

I didn’t have much energy today… I’m not sure what’s going on – according to Whole30 timeline I should be at “boundless energy”! I went to bed before 9 pm.

Day 16

I Woke up at 10.20 am so I slept more than 13 hours. Wow.

I checked the Whole30 timeline again – Today I should be at “Tiger blood”. Hmm.

I finally did 30 Day Shred again – I know, it’s been more than a week… It felt a little bit like day one again. I’ll probably be sore tomorrow.

Day 17

It was a pleasant Sunday today. I went for a walk – it was freezing cold outside but so pretty with lots of snow.

Day 18

Monday.  I stayed up so late last night that it was 9.30 am before I got to work. I hate going to work late because it means it will be late before I get to leave work as well…

I felt so tired that when I finally got home I just had some dinner and went to bed to have a nap. Well, “a nap” because I have a problem with napping:

The thing is, I really need my sleep and if I only get 5 hours of sleep then it’s almost guaranteed that I’ll go and have one of my naps the following day. My “naps” usually last 2 – 3 hours. And today wasn’t different. I woke up at 9.45 pm, had some fruit and then just sat on my computer. The problem is that once I’ve had my nap I don’t really have much energy the rest of the evening and have a guess how well I’ll fall asleep at night?

Day 19

I’m so happy – I did both my Bollywood dance class AND 30 Day Shred today.

I bought a salad for lunch at a cafe, it was a chicken salad with mixed seeds. And for snacks I had an apple and quite a lot of almonds.

Day 20

I was – once again – late for work so I just grabbed some fruit for breakfast, there was no time to take any pictures…

I had a horrible day at work – so many meetings I didn’t have time for proper lunch so I just had an apple and some almonds on my way to an afternoon meeting.

Chicken wings again for dinner – I didn’t realize I have chicken wings this often!

Day 21

Another long day at work. Today I had:

For lunch I had a salad from a salad bar.

My trousers don’t feel tight anymore but they certainly don’t feel loose either. I’m a bit worried I’m not making as much progress as I did the first time I did Whole30.

I think there are two main reasons for this:

  • I think I eat too much nuts and seeds. Pretty much daily. As healthy as they are they do pack a lot of calories.
  • I eat potatoes. Too many potatoes.

When I did Whole30 for the first time I think it took me a week or two to realize I can actually eat potatoes during this program.

I think I’ll focus on those things next week: less nuts, almonds and potatoes.

Thoughts on Whole30 this week…

The truly great thing about Whole30 is that you won’t go hungry. I mean really. Obviously I am doing this mainly to get healthier but I can admit that I’m also doing this to lose weight. And when it comes to weight loss plans, I believe they mainly fail because people get hungry.

And on Whole30 we don’t have to count anything. At least to me that’s a big plus. I don’t have to constantly think about food as long as I simply make sure that I eat enough, and the right kind of food.

    Hello, I know that this is a blog post from last year, but I just found it. 🙂 I am on my third Whole30 and just doing 30 Shred for the first time.
    From what I can see of your meals, you are not getting enough protein or fat. The meal template guides, for athletes and non-athletes, on Whole30.com is really helpful in guiding folks into getting enough to sustain energy and workouts. While all of the meals appear to be compliant, they also appear to be loaded with fruit, which is high in sugar. I know that I would be hungry after just eating fruit for lunch and it’s not in true Whole30 style either.
    I’m sure my two cents are just that, two cents and unsolicited, but I thought I’d chime in anyway.Anywho, thanks for posting about your journey through both.

      I agree with your comment when it comes to eating fruit: I ate too much of it, that’s true. There’s a lot of sugar in fruits and having just one or two portions of fruit a day would have been a lot better 🙂

      However, I do not think I ate too little fat on this diet. It might not show in these pictures but I added a lot – and I mean a lot of olive oil to my salad. You know, when I felt that I’d added enough oil I just closed my eyes and poured a little more 🙂 In addition to the oil I ate some almonds or nuts every day and fatty pieces of meat with skin on + bacon. So I’m kind of happy with that.

      Protein, I probably should have had more of that as well. Looking back at these pictures you could be right there.

      Overall I didn’t feel hungry though and I think that’s the main thing.
